Queen Maya’s Dream

Queen Maya’s Dream

Queen Maya had a dream. She saw a huge white elephant come into her room. It was holding a lotus flower. The elephant blew its trunk as it was walking round her bed three times. In the morning King Suddhodana asked his wise men about the queen’s dream. They said that “A great son will be born to Queen Maya”

Birth of Prince Siddhartha

Birth of Prince Siddhartha

Queen Maya gave birth to Prince Siddhartha in a pretty royal park, called “Lumbini Sal Uyana”. It was the full-moon day of May.

Six Years of Struggle

Siddhartha tried to develop tremendous willpower by enduring great pain without complaining. He went to a forest and began to meditate for six years, unprotected from heat, cold, wind and rain. His body which once had been so strong and handsome was reduced to little more than a skeleton. Eventually he understood that if he was going to continue his spiritual quest, he would have to follow a middle path between extremes of self-indulgence and self-denial.

At the age of thirty-five, Siddhartha found way for people to end their pain and sadness. From then on, he was called the Lord Buddha. For the next forty-five years he taught the path to complete liberation from suffering to all who were interested.

Passed Away

The Lord Buddha passed away

At the age of eighty, Lord Buddha realised that he had helped all those he could and that it was time for him to pass away.
