  •  6.30am   -   Morning Buddha Puja (offering and Buddha worship)
  •  11.00am -   Noon Buddha Puja (offering and Buddha worship)
  •  6.30pm   -   Evening Buddha Puja followed by pirith chanting

Meditation Sessions

Each session will be made up of three equal segments of meditation, Buddhist philosophy and discussion.

Anually Programme 

  • Vesak (Buddha day) - in May, celebrating the birth, enlightment and passing away of Buddha
  • Poson - in June, celebrating the day Buddhism was brought to Sri Lanka
  • Esala - in August, celebrating the day the Buddha delivered the first sermon
  • Vas (Rains retreat) - from the full moon day in August (Esala) to full moon day in October(Vap), during this period devotees take turns to attend to the needs of the resident monks.
  • Katina ceremony - offering of a robe to one of the chosen monks in the lunar month following the rains retreat.
  • Blessing of devotees for the New Year (1st of January)
  • Sinhala New year celebrations on April ( 14th or ..)

Other Activities  

  • Sermons and meditation retreats by visiting monks
  • Special pujas at the request of devotees merit to a departed loved one , to bless an expectant mother, birth of a child, birthdays, exams and other similar events.
  • Vihara is opened to visitors daily from 8.30am to 11.00am and 2.30am to 8.30pm. It is opened at 6.00am for those offering breakfast to the monks and 11.00am till 1.00pm for those offering lunch to the monks
  • Contacting Vihara by phone should also be limited to the opening hours. Everyone is welcome during the opening hours for worship, discussions, guidance and meditation.

The Meditation Programme* (in Sinhala) for Saturdays and Sundays is as follows:

6.30 – 7.00 a.m. Buddha Pūjā

7.00 – 9.15 a.m. Administering Aṭṭānga Uposatha Sila, Buddha Vandanâ and ‘Purvakrutiya’ bhāvanā followed by Pariyanka bāvanā (sitting meditation) and sermon/discussion.

9.15 – 9.30 a.m. Tea

9.30 – 10.45 a.m. Pariyanka bhāvanā and sermon/discussion

10.45 – 12.30 p.m. Buddha Pūjā followed by lunch

12.30 – 1.15 p.m. Sakman bhāvanā (walking meditation)

1.15 – 2.30 a.m. Pariyanka bhāvanā and sermon/discussion

2.30 – 3.00 p.m. Tea

3.00 – 5.00 p.m. The regular, usual, Abhidhamma Class

5.00 – 6.00 p.m. Introductory course on Pali

6.30 p.m. Buddha Pūjā

7.00 p.m. Conclusion
